Learning to cook

Since arriving in Malito last week, bel ragazzos mum has decided it is time I learn how to cook. I can cook mind you, but it is just that I cannot cook very well. Nothing seems to be very tasty when I make it. Luckily my lovely bel ragazzo enjoys cooking and has taught me a thing or two in the kitchen. It seems now that his mum is also intent on teaching me how to cook...maybe she is worried that her son shall starve with me as his chosen partner...who knows!

We arrived in Malito last Saturday and no sooner had I put my suitcase down, then the biggest rolling pin I had ever seen was thrust into my hands, and I was told it was time to learn the trick of how to make home made pasta.

Now I am no novice when it comes to homemade pasta as growing up I used to often make homemade spaghetti with my grandmother but we used to cheat a bit and use a hand operated machine which roles the pasta out for you, and cuts the dough into strips of spaghetti. There were to be no pasta machines in bel ragazzos mums kitchen! She had already made the dough (it is as though she was waiting for me to arrive...) and without missing a beat she began to teach me the art of making homemade pasta.

Since then I have made home made pasta from scratch, and I have baked some biscuits too...and I have only been here 1 week!

Well done, it looks delicious. Personally, I'm planning to find myself a guy who's an enthusiastic cook, or at least one who diesn't really like to eat, hence won't want me to maky anything fancy. Or maybe a professional chef... haha, a girl can dream, right?

Ah, don't you just love a man that can cook?? It looks like you had fun with the pasta and I am sure it's nice to have bonding time with your suocera. I'm looking forward to this sort of thing.

Great post! Brought back memories of when I used to make homemade pasta with my nonna Bettina in Calabria. We used to get up early in the morning and make a HUGE batch of 'mparrettati for the whole family. We never used a pasta machine. However, back home in Canada, my mom and I ALWAYS used a pasta machine ... and I can't live without it. You're lucky to have a wonderful MIL to show you ... I wish my nonna Bettina was still around so we can make more pasta. Looking forward to reading other posts.

Hi Anon,
The pasta was yummy indeed!

Hi Carmen,
Tomorrow night I am going to teach bel ragazzos mum how to make my nonna's piazza...so she'll be the student and I the teacher!

Hi BC,
Your funny! Finding a man who does not like to eat...I think it'll be easier for you to find a chef or a man who likes to cook rather then one who does not like to eat!

Hi Piccola,
You'll have plenty of time to bond with your own suocera. Just saw you want to learn how to cook and she'll love to teach you!

Hi Rosabela,
Thanks for stopping by! I cannot imagine making enough pasta for a whole family. I made enough for 5 of us and my wrists were so sore after needing and roling the dough!
