Swapping g'day for ciao once more

Time is ticking and I only have another 3 weeks left in Australia! I heard today that I thankfully do have summer work in Italy but that it will not be in the lovely Taormina which is where bel ragazzo and I really wanted to go.

Times are tough world wide with this financial crisis and my company have cut the summer workers by more then half. Yep, that's right. A lot of my colleagues are without work in the summer season which is usually our busiest time. Our British customers just aren't buying enough holidays and I don't really blame them since the sterling is so very low. Italy is expensive enough as it is, and with your currency being weak then you may not be able to have as much of the dolce vita as you would have liked.

So I happy to announce that I will be employed, with the bel ragazzo by my side and we will be spending the summer in the rather tourist infested resort of Sorrento. It could be worse. I could have been sent back to Rome! We can now at least go out and about exploring this fantastic region on our days off...but the main thing is that we are together and we have a job.

These are some pictures of our soon to be home.

I'm not mad about Sorrento in summer but I could think of a worse place to be! Just think of all the wonderful places just around (literally) the corner(s). I may come and say hello if I can face the thought of those crowded buses on my return!

Hi Scintilla,
Well if you are in Positano this summer then maybe I'll just have to come to you! The bus can be horrible as I well know!

Might not be a great place to work in the Summer, with all the tourists ..but still a beautiful place and you are in Italy, with the one you love :-)

Hi Anne,
You are right - I am with the one I love which is the most important thing!

Hi Leanne,

I'm somewhat envious on you being in Sorrento soon. I can imagine it being very busy(touristy) but I would gladly go there right now to be away from all the death & destruction etc from the fires here in Victoria.
I posted a comment some time ago regarding Tropea as we had stayed there for a week in May last year and really loved the place but appreciate how busy it could get.

Whilst my wife and I are are lucky that we have not been directly impacted by the fires, we still have the threat of them for another two months at least.
In fact last night(Sunday) there was a fire in the National Park immediately south of where we live and an urgent threat message was broadcast on radio for people that live in the surrounding area of the Park. We chose to stay as the wind was taking the fire away from us but it remains a constant thought in your mind. This fire was a deliberate light too by some idiot.

I'll look forward to your posts when you have returned to Italy and Sorrento.

Good luck

Hi Iain,
I cannot imagine being so close to the bush fires...would not be nice at all. I am staying not far from the city and the air today was so thick with smoke from the fires which are miles away! I cannot believe that some crazy person would deliveratley light the fires...some people deserve to be locked away for ever.

The fires in Aussie are terrible, it's so sad and maddening that these could be human caused. I have relatives in Adelaide & Melbourne.

Congrats on Sorrento being your summer location. I've not been there but seen and heard how beautiful it is. I may be in that area this summer if so I'll drop you a note. Is it from your boyfriend’s home town?

I'm having a giveaway celebrating the 1st anniversary of my blog and 100th post. Stop by and enter.

Hi ice Tea for me,
Thanks for stopping by and I'll be sure to check out your blog and the 100th post.
My boyfriends home town is actually Malito which is in Calabria so we will be not so far, just a few hours drive away!

Ciao Leanne! I am sorry to hear that you will not be in Taormina where you would like to be, but happy to hear that you will have work for the summer. That is indeed lucky this year! I haven't been to Sorrento much in the summer, but it is a lovely city. There are lots of quiet places to get away from the tourists not far from Sorrento and on the Amalfi Coast. Maybe we could get a coffee sometime this summer in Sorrento or Amalfi? That would be great! Safe travels!

So glad you got your assignment -- that you GOT an assignment -- and together with bel ragazzo! And not Rome!!! And the Amalfi Coast is soooo beautiful. It will be great! Congrats!

Hi Laura,
A coffee sounds great. When I get there and settled we can get in touch and take it from there!

Hi KimB,
Thanks! The Amalfi Coast is very beautiful and I know I am just lucky to have got work with my bel ragazzo.
