If you have been reading my last few posts you will know we have had some religious issues in Malito. The priest had said I, being the girl that I am, could not be bel ragazzos sponsor for his confirmation.
Well the story has once again changed. It turns out that there are many people in Malito who have been confirmed by someone of the opposite sex...interestingly the priests own nephew (or some family member) had a sponsor of the opposite sex...yes - seems this priest likes to make up the rules as he goes along.
Bel ragazzo went to speak with the priest yesterday and to cut a very long story short I can now be his sponsor.
Well...there you go! Now I have to go to mass again for the next few weeks.

Are you dealing with the priest in Malito? Or Cosenza?
You'll have to let me know how the masses are in Malito. I only attended one mass while I was in Italy as it was dedicated to my father but I have heard that sometimes the Sunday mass can go on for hours (yes plural!). Good luck! :)
P.S - I'm so itching to make pasta from scratch now after seeing your pictures!
Hi Lulu,
It is the priest in Malito! Bel ragazzo is getting confirmed in Cosenza since they have the ceremony in a few weeks.
I have only been to mass once in Malito and we entered the church half way so I did not have to sit through it all!
Hi Lulu,
I just stumbled upon your blog and have taken a trip back in time through your adventures! I lived in Malito for nearly 10 years where I met my "bel ragazzo", got married at the Chiesa Madre (most likely by the priest you've been dealing with), started a family, bottled tomatoes, roasted chestnuts, made fresh pasta with the eggs from our own chickens, slaughtered pigs, cleaned their intestines(!yuck!), and picked wild oregano from the hills below the village. I had come from California and fell in love with the village my great grandfather had left-Grimaldi- where I lived and worked until I met my husband. I was living my own dream and loved it-swore I would never leave and still miss it! We try and get back every other summer to our home which we left there and it is always a bittersweet departure.
We moved to California when our boys were 3 and 5 years old to see if we could find more stable employment for my husband and to offer our children more opportunities in their future.
It is a delight to read your postings and please know that I can truly understand all of the nuances of la vita Malitano!
Good luck and I look forward to hearing more of your reflections on this village so dear to my heart!
Whoops! I meant that last comment for you Leanne! not Lulu! Scusami!
Hi L'Americana,
Ahhh...so you lived here and know exactly what I am talking about!
Bel ragazzo and I do not plan to live here in Malito as you hit the nail on the head with the employment thing. We are however looking forward to doing up a house in the country so that we have a holiday home to come back to.
